I-Chen Wu, MD, PhD, graduated from National Taiwan University, Taiwan. She is currently a Professor and Associate Dean of the College of Medicine at Kaohsiung Medical University, as well as an Attending Physician in the Division of Gastroenterology at Kaohsiung Medical University Hospital, Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Her clinical and research interests focus on translational and clinical studies of upper gastrointestinal cancers, particularly esophageal and gastric malignancies. Beyond teaching, Dr. Wu’s work emphasizes the development of novel endoscopic techniques, biomarker discovery, and the optimization of immunotherapy outcomes. She is actively involved in multiple clinical trials and collaborates with international research consortia to advance cancer treatment and improve patient care.

Courage Uhunmwangho (MBBS, MSc, FWACP, FRCP) - Nigeria (Africa)

Dr. Courage Uhunmwangho is an Associate Professor of Medicine and Rheumatology at the University of Jos and a Consultant Rheumatologist at Jos University Teaching Hospital. He serves as the Level Coordinator for fourth-year medical students in the Department of Medicine at the University of Jos and is the Head of the Rheumatology Unit at JUTH, where he leads patient care, specialist training, and research activities. He also serves as Chair of the Rheumatology Sub-specialty at the West African College of Physicians.

His research focuses on the epidemiology, burden, and outcomes of musculoskeletal diseases in African populations, including community-based COPCORD surveys and rheumatology registry development. Dr. Uhunmwangho holds an MBBS degree and an MSc in Clinical Epidemiology. He is a Fellow of both the West African College of Physicians (FWACP) and the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP).

Dr. Uhunmwangho is actively involved in advancing rheumatology care, education, research and strengthening rheumatology systems across Africa. He is a member of the Executive Committee of the International League of Associations for Rheumatology (ILAR) and President-Elect of the African League of Associations for Rheumatology (AFLAR). He is the Principal Investigator for the Rheumatoid Arthritis Registry in Nigeria (RHARIN) and the Lupus Registry in Nigeria (LURIN). 

Tamara Phiri, MD - Malawi (Africa)

Dr. Tamara Phiri is an Internal Medicine physician and senior lecturer at Kamuzu, University of Health Sciences and Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Malawi.    She is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, a fellow of the College of Physicians of South Africa, and a founding fellow of the East Central and Southern Africa College of Physicians.

She has contributed to several multinational research consortia on topics such as COVID-19, non-communicable diseases, and the application of Point of Care Ultrasound in low-resource settings.  She is contributing author in the Textbook of Medicine in Africa and has been a peer reviewer for the Lancet Global Health, Malawi Medical Journal, International Health (Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene), and Tropical Doctor (Royal Society of Medicine).

Dr. Phiri is founding President of the Malawi College of Physicians. During her tenure, she laid foundations for specialist Internal Medicine training in Malawi, in collaboration with partner institutions in Kenya, Zambia, Uganda, Zimbabwe, and Tanzania, under the East Central and Southern Africa College of Physicians (ECSACOP).  In 2022, she took oversaw operations across ECSACOP's six African countries, and in 2025 she became Council Chairperson for all ECSA subspecialty colleges across 16 African countries.

Dr. Phiri has been featured on CNN International and across Malawian media for her work. She was recognized by NICO Group Malawi as a leading icon for Women's Month and she received the Presidential Award for Excellence in the Health Sector from President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera in Malawi.
